Management Trainee |
Every MT goes through a structured MT programme
comprising cross-functional & functional stints and
projects. The emphasis is on ensuring that the MT has the
view of the overall business & an in depth understanding of
his/ her function. This ensures multi deployability of the
individual into various roles and is the first step towards
developing business general managers
Following are the key highlights of our MT training
- Structured training stints for each function – you can
view the stint calendar for each function for further
details.
- Focus and commitment of organizational leadership – post
each stint an MT makes a presentation to the function CEO
and HR jointly that forms part of his evaluation.
- Recognition of the difference that MTs can make to
systems and processes – MTs partake in organizational gains
through performance linked incentive that can be as high as
33% of their CTC based on their stint scores.
The MT training culminates in confirmation of MTs in a
managerial role in various handling independent charge of a
work area.

designed to build you up as a complete business leader.
Sales
& Marketing:
Management Trainee Program
As a MT joining Marico in sales & marketing function you
will undergo comprehensive training on various sales roles
and systems. The first 10 months are spent in going through
various stints in the rural & urban sales setup. The
training starts with the frontline sales roles &
progressively moves into higher roles & responsibilities
culminating in the Territory Sales Executive stint. There is
also training on sales supply chain management and use of
information technology in Sales. You also get branding
exposure through a live project in marketing. During this
project you will also get inducted in various Marketing
systems and processes including external interfaces like
market research agencies & ad agencies. At the end of 10
months you will do an ASM understudy stint in sales or if in
marketing you will do a project led role with Marketing.
On completion of MT program
At the end of the year you will assume responsibility of a
region as an Area Sales Manager or as a marketing management
trainee join the marketing team as a Brand Manager
Activation where you will be involved in activation of a
large brand.
In three-four year’s time
- In Sales
You will be in charge of Larger Metro locations or in
charge of specific channel of sales like Modern Trade or
a regional responsibility in sales like Regional Sales
Development Manager. You can also move from sales to a
marketing role in brands.
- In Marketing
In marketing you will have an independent charge of a
large brand with responsibility of handling end to end
all activities for it – brand strategizing, positioning,
communication planning, commercials etc.

Finance
Management Trainee Program
As a management trainee in finance the induction is designed to give a business perspective rather than merely a functional one. You will begin with a sales stint where you would build up appreciation of how the sales function operates this being one of the most crucial aspect of FMCG organization. This is followed by a plant stint that can be across any of the 7 manufacturing locations in Marico. In each of these stints there will be a specific finance/commercial project that you will undertake to gain appreciation of finance’s role in these functions.
This is followed by a role led or project based stint in either Corporate finance or with finance embedded in other functions such as business finance, plant commercial, sales commercial, commercial ( International Business Group), Kaya Finance etc.
On completion of MT program
At the end of the year you will be confirmed as a Finance Manager in any of the finance roles across the organization.
In three-four year’s time
You will be in charge of a functional area within finance. You can build your expertise in a specialist role like treasury or investor relations or be closely associated with business in roles like business finance or IBG commercial etc.

Systems
Management Trainee Program
The Management Trainee Program for Systems is highly customized. As a Management Trainee in Systems, you would undergo a detailed induction in the IT systems & processes in the various cells of the function. This includes IT Infrastructure which will give you an insight into the IT architecture & the ongoing changes & challenges in the same. The business solutions cell which aims at delivering business value by designing solutions for & with the end users. This involves a high degree of cross-functional interaction & helps develop a deep understanding of the business & its needs.
A sales stint at the beginning of your traineeship provides exposure to the front line aspects of a FMCG business. This stint is followed by role / project led stints in the various IT cells & thus equips you to take up varied roles at the end of your traineeship.
On completion of MT program
At the end of the year you will be confirmed as a Systems Manager in any of the systems roles across the organization.
In three-four year’s time
You would develop an in depth understanding of business & thus will be equipped to play the role of a Business Solution provider across the organization to various end users / departments. As a Business Applications Manager, you would conceptualize & lead various IT initiatives across Marico.

Operations
Management Trainee Program
Joining as a Management Trainee in Operations, you would have a wide choice of areas to move into. These would vary from core manufacturing to SCM & Commercial. The Management Trainee Program is designed to give you an exposure into all these while equipping you to gain expertise by designing role / project based stints in related areas.
Your traineeship will begin with a Sales Stint that aims at providing you exposure to a critical aspect of the FMCG business.
This is followed by a detailed induction in Commercial spanning from Back Room Operations (Purchase Planning, Distribution Planning, IT Systems & Processes of SAP, APO & BIW) to Front Room Operations (Demand planning, Depot Management, C & FA Management). The induction on commodities buying process in Calicut will give you an in depth understanding of the process and the market realities that prevail. You would understand the cross-functional linkages of Manufacturing & SCM through an induction on Business Finance & Corporate Quality Assurance.
Following this would be your plant, SCM / Commercial stints based on a live project thus equipping you for various roles that you can take up at the end of your traineeship.
On completion of MT program
At the end of the year you would be in one of the roles in Operations in the field of Manufacturing / SCM / Commercial.
In three-four year’s time
Your growth would be through opportunities in manufacturing, SCM, commodities buying, e-procurement & sales supply chain. This can also be in related/similar areas in independent business divisions of Kaya, Sundari or our International Business Group.
Additionally, you could also be handling independent charge of special projects or key initiatives like ERP upgradation or setting up of new manufacturing facility.

Human Resources:
Management Trainee Program
As management trainee in human resources, the focus of the training is to give you an overall exposure to the business and build depth in understanding the function.
You start with the sales training to build appreciation of how front line operations take place. Along with the sales training there is a specific HR project that you would be required to do to understand the HR issues that is likely to exist for sales personnel and likely interventions that is possible. A similar stint at any of our 7 manufacturing locations will familiarize you with both the manufacturing operations as well as the HR issues and interventions that is required at a plant level.
Post this, your training would be either role led or projects led, giving you exposure to various facets of HR such as – recruitment, induction, training, organization development initiatives etc.
On completion of MT program
On confirmation you will take on a role as a Human Resource Manager handling a generalist role such as Sales HR Manager, Employment Relations Manager or in a specialized corporate role such as Recruitment, Campus Relationship Management, Training & OD etc.
In three-four year’s time
Growth in HR takes place through exposure to different areas and responsibilities.It can be by rotation in various roles within HR or it can be through role enlargement by adding other responsibilities to your existing role.

ASSESSMENT & PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
Each stint or project planned for you has a specific deliverable that gets mutually aligned with you at the commencement of your project/stint. At the end of the stint there are three levels of assessment done by:
- Stint/Project Guide – who has been closely associated with the project/stint.
- Function CEO- assessment given post corporate presentation made by MT on his/her project or stint
- Head Corporate HR - assessment given post corporate presentation made by MT on his/her project or stint
The comprehensive assessment is followed by feedback session for you where your areas of improvement and progress is discussed. These ratings also form the basis of the incentive pay out at the end of the year. |
